Grove
One of Miami's oldest and most popular neighborhoods is Coconut Grove. Located
on a bluff that rises out of Biscayne Bay, the Grove was first settled in
the 1880's, and historic Barnacle House dates back to the era. With its
lavish greenery and variety of architectural styles, Coconut Grove has appealed
to artists, writers and musicians throughout its history. Villa Vizcaya,
a museum that was once a home of a wealthy Midwest industrialist, is situated
on quiet acreage on Biscayne Bay.
Coconut Grove's downtown area, located at the intersection of Main Highway
and Grand Ave, draws big crowds on most evenings. Both CocoWalk and the
Streets of Mayfair include movie theaters, restaurants on upscale shops.
Nearby are small boutiques, cafes, the Coconut Grove Play house and other
attractions.
