Southwest of Coral Gables is the new Village of Pinecrest, a community founded in the 1950's that includes many single-family homes on lots of an acre or more. With land prices going up, many lots are now being subdivided and smaller clusters of high-end homes are under construction throughout the community.

Incorporated in 1996, Pinecrest, which has 18,000 residents, has already earned a reputation for quality government services and a low municipal tax rate. Highly regarded public schools, as well as nearby private academies, are among the city's biggest attractions, drawing professional families from throughout the area.
